Physician scientist named to Credit Union for Kids Professorship in Pediatric Research
Cindy McEvoy, M.D., M.C.R., professor of pediatrics, OHSU School of Medicine, was appointed Aug. 12 as the recipient of the Credit Union for Kids Professorship in Pediatric Research.
School of Medicine Dean Sharon Anderson, M.D., and OHSU Provost Elena Andresen, Ph.D., presided over an investiture attended by Dr. McEvoy and her family, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital leaders and faculty, representatives from Credit Union for Kids, and members of the OHSU Foundation.
Dr. McEvoy is a neonatologist and physician scientist whose research interest is on the primary prevention of childhood respiratory disease through in-utero and early life interventions with a focus on the use of pulmonary function testing to quantify outcomes. She currently has three NIH funded projects and 15 years of near continuous funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to study interventions that will promote lifelong lung health.
Dr. McEvoy earned her medical degree at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, did her pediatric residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles and her neonatology fellowship at Los Angeles (LA) County Hospital. Following her fellowship, she joined a private practice neonatology group in Pensacola, Florida where she was also the medical director of the 110-bed Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
Credit Unions for Kids is a nonprofit collaboration of credit unions from across Oregon and SW Washington, engaged in fundraising activities to benefit OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Founded in Oregon in 1986, Credit Unions for Kids has raised more than $18 million in support of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics.
The credit union’s remarkable collaborative fundraising efforts have supported Doernbecher’s outpatient clinic, pediatric intensive care unit, the Tom Sargent Safety Center, clinical trial research for pediatric cancer, three endowed professorships in pediatrics, as well as the endowed chair of the department of pediatrics. Most recently, they supported the construction of the Gary & Christine Rood Family Pavilion at OHSU. Credit Unions for Kids has been critical to advancing research and enhancing patient care at OHSU Doernbecher.
