Chris Shaffer to Join UCSF

chris-3943-3Please join us in congratulating Chris Shaffer, who has been appointed University Librarian and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Information Management at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). In this role, he will lead an integrated, multi-campus enterprise renowned for its contemporary approaches in cutting edge education, research, and clinical training, dedicated to community engagement and learning.

Mr. Shaffer joined OHSU as University Librarian in 2008. Over the past nine years, he has been involved in numerous campus initiatives, most recently leading a Provost Office task force that proposed a Vision for Academic Technology and Learning Support. He has served on NIH National Library of Medicine (NLM) vision and strategic planning groups; the Board of Directors of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of 39 academic libraries, which he chaired; the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association as Treasurer; and the New England Journal of Medicine Library Advisory Board. He is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). At the recent Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association, Mr. Shaffer was honored with the President’s Award.

Under Mr. Shaffer’s leadership, the OHSU Library launched the Ontology Development Group, developed library liaison programs, implemented new technologies to extend services beyond the physical library, and significantly expanded historical collections and archives programs. His last day at OHSU will be June 30, 2017.
