It would be great if the library home page had some sort of prominent link to a tutorial on how to access materials from off-campus. It’s such a basic thing, but students keep asking me how to do it, and it would be nice to have a walkthrough I could send them to. One of the Library FAQ entries covers it well ( http://ohsu.libanswers.com/faq/71014 ) but it takes a fair bit of clicking around in the website to find that section, and it seems like a common enough use case that it would warrant a dedicated link on the main homepage, or possibly under ‘Library Tutorials” or something.
Thank you for your suggestion. We are looking into the best place to highlight this on the website in the short term and then we will monitor whether that link gets used. Looking broadly and deeply at how our website is organized to facilitate learners finding our resources and services efficiently is on our summer to-do list, and that effort may give us other strategies to try. We will likely be offering some usability testing opportunities for users to try out options–stay tuned!
