Required Textbooks and Course Reserves at OHSU Library

With a new school year upon us we want to address our most asked question at the beginning of every term: do you have the book I need for my class?

The answer is: maybe. Although we post lists of required textbooks each term, it would be impossible for us to provide enough copies for every student. That’s why students are expected to purchase their own materials and why libraries developed course reserves. Course Reserves are items instructors have requested the Library set aside for student use.

OHSU Library recognizes that textbooks are expensive, and we attempt to provide e-book access through our website whenever possible. Unfortunately, some vendors/publishers won’t allow libraries to purchase e-books.

Print reserves are available from the OHSU Library service desk located on the 3rd floor of the BICC building.

Due to high demand, print course reserves check out for 1 week with no renewals.

Use the “Library Search” feature on our website to see if we have the book you need and contact us if you have questions.

Faculty can request materials for course reserves and work with the Library to identify titles available electronically. For a more thorough information on the Library’s ability to provide Course materials please read this blog post.
