Be Careful on the Road this Fall

With the approach of the rainy season, now is the time to place road safety at the top of your list of things to think about. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 2400 deaths a year result from occupational motor vehicle incidents, accounting for almost one out of four fatal work injuries. And with the rains, your chances of becoming part of this statistic increase dramatically. Speeds you are used to driving during summer may no longer be appropriate on rain-slickened roads. And passing semi trucks can be dangerous when enveloped in a cloud of mist kicked up by those large wheels. Fog will also become a factor to consider when travelling this fall, and ice will compound the problems you face in winter. The bottom line on road travel: don’t rely on summer driving habits — make a conscious effort to consider the seasonal road conditions and adjust your driving habits accordingly.
