The Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health conference (GOSH) ran last week at the Oregon Convention Center. A highlight for many of us attending was the Excellence in Worksite Wellness short course on Thursday shown in the top picture. About 75 attended the short course to hear Ron Goetzel, the keynote speaker from Emory University and Truven Analytics, discuss the uses of data to evaluate the success of programs and the return on investment of workplace wellness programs. Ron’s slides and many others will be available on the Oregon Healthy WorkForce Center Website in the coming week (ww.ohsu.edu/OHWC).
Another highlight was the Portland Business Journal Healthiest Employer Award Recipients and Best Practices Panel. The award winners were:
- SAIF Corporation
- AEG Management OR, LLC
- Leatherman Tools
The panel shown, in the picture, was led by Portland Business Journal Editor Rob Smith. Each award winning organization was represented, by Renae Coombs (SAIF), Lynne Logue (AEG), and Ashley Grierson (Leatherman Tools).
The panel was followed by “State of The State” speakers on the Oregon Healthy WorkForce Center (Kent Anger), Oregon Health Authority (Mel Kohn), Oregon Public Health Institute (Dawn Robbins) and SAIF (Deb Fell-Carlson) and a presentation of Cool Tools for wellness in the workplace. The Course concluded with a Best Practices Forum led by Chuck Easterly of SAIF that featured audience voting on Wellness strategies that had worked for them (pictured below).
Appreciation is extended to Dede Montgomery (CROET and Oregon Healthy WorkForce Center) and Deb Fell-Carlson (SAIF) for organizing an exciting session.
