After more than a dozen years of celebrating Oregon high school creators of the annual O[yes] Work Safe. Speak Up. video contest, the event is going virtual! O[yes], the Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition, didn’t want to lose the opportunity to honor the high school students who submitted this year’s winning videos. And, perhaps as a silver lining, some of you who have supported this contest both financially and in spirit can join us through the power of a virtual connection. We offer a huge thank you to those individuals who have gone above and beyond to make this event happen this year.

To join the O[yes] team, supporters, video creators and families, tune in to the Facebook Live Event from the O[yes] Facebook page on Wed., May 14 beginning at 4:00 pm. If you happen to miss it you can look for the recording on both Facebook, and later, on the O[yes] webpage.

The mission of O[yes] is to prevent injuries and illnesses to young workers through outreach, advocacy, and sharing of resources with young workers, educators, employers, parents, and labor organizations. The annual video contest has been a popular annual initiative for more than a dozen years. O[yes] has encouraged Oregon high school students to create videos entries that will inspire young workers to do at least one thing differently to stay safe on the job. The submitted videos must include the theme: “Speak up. Work safe.” and educate young workers about the importance of speaking up in the workplace. The video contest provides cash prizes of $500, $400, and $300 to winning teams with matching prizes to their schools. O[yes] thanks the organizations contributing financial donations toward this contest including: Oregon OSHA, SAIF, Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences (OHSU), American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Columbia-Willamette Chapter, Construction Safety Summit, Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Association, Hoffman Construction, SafeBuild Alliance, and Oregon SHARP Alliance.
