We wanted to send our appreciation to each of our 2021 Summer Interns as they finish the final week of their internship. Their hard work and contributions to science have not gone unnoticed. We also wanted to say, “thank you” to their faculty mentors. This week, Summer interns participated in a virtual poster presentation to share their research projects from the last 10 weeks. Their research presentation topics included:
Lauren Lee, Nicole Bowles Lab: The impact of shift schedule on a firefighter’s cardiovascular health
Anika Banister, Miranda Lim Lab: Centella Asiatica to treat anxiety-like behaviors and sleep disturbances in aged mice
Kaiyo Shi, Suzanne Mitchell Lab: Adaptation to the adjusting amount procedure and its predictive qualities
Megan Jones, Saurabh Thosar Lab: The effects of habitual physical inactivity on sleep
Renee Kozlowski, Brad Wipfli Lab: The Active Workplace Study, sedentary bouts, and musculoskeletal pain prevalence: a mediation analysis.
Our 2021 Occupational Health Sciences intern program provided a remote internship opportunity consisting of virtual activities, such as journal clubs, lab meetings and educational presentations, such as developing a research poster project.
Occupational Health Sciences’ Summer Student Research Awards are 10 week paid summer internships designed to introduce undergraduate students to biomedical and occupational health research. The Institute’s internship program provides unique research opportunities across various basic and applied research areas. Whether studying molecules, cells, organ systems, non-human organisms, or gathering data in the community, students will gain valuable experience conducting a specific project aligned with their host faculty member’s research program. To learn more about future Summer internship opportunities, visit our Institute Summer Internship page. Applications open December 2021 for our 2022 Summer internships.
