We hope you will join us on July 19, 2022 for our virtual Oregon Healthy Workforce Center single day Summer Institute. This year’s event will address Total Worker Health® Approaches in Industry and Academia: Key elements and implementation. The event will be hosted via WebEx and run from 8:45am – 3pm PT. It is hosted by the Oregon Healthy Workforce Center (OHWC) and co-sponsored by Portland State University’s OHP-TWH Program and Saint Mary’s University, CN Center for Occupational Health & Safety.
As research increasingly shows evidence for Total Worker Health® as an effective approach for worker well-being, we are faced with a growing need to educate and train students and industry professionals on Total Worker Health (TWH) concepts and implementation. Our 2022 Summer Institute is focused on Total Worker Health® approaches in industry and academia: Key elements and implementation. This one-day online event will highlight current opportunities to learn and implement TWH concepts and strategies. TWH is closely aligned with Occupational Health Psychology and also draws on traditional disciplines of Occupational Safety and Health. Thus, this year’s Summer Institute will target students, researchers, occupational safety and health practitioners, human resource professionals, and industry leaders. By the end of the event, our goal is for attendees from academia and industry to have an understanding of how to apply the TWH approach with the ultimate goal of improving workplace safety, health, and well-being, and to share their findings and concepts with students and emerging professionals.

- Case studies with panelists:
- Shamai Larsen (Legacy Health Services; healthcare industry): example of kick-off including why, how and next steps
- Mike Ellis (Apollo Mechanical Contractors; construction industry): example of mid-journey, including the path to beginning and narrowing focus based on highest priority (suicide prevention) and how that further develops other concepts/culture
- Deborah Roy (LL Bean; retail): example of sustained implementation, including specific examples and lessons learned and tips
- Facilitated Interactive Exercise and Discussion with Audience: Identifying the workplace factors that contribute to worker well-being is foundational to transforming workplaces into supportive and healthy environments that enhance well-being for workers, and the organization as a whole. Dr. Leslie Hammer will share her expert insights and important considerations for leaders and teams to guide their journey toward a sustainable culture of safety, health, and well-being.
