If you’re a faculty member who is part of the Knight Cancer Institute or OHSU Heart Research Center, consider mentoring an undergraduate biology student through the Murdock Undergraduate Collaborative Research Program next summer.
Mentors work with a Murdock Scholar for ten weeks during the summer on a project and continue to assist the scholar throughout the following year to prepare a final thesis and give a presentation at a special session of the Oregon Academy of Sciences. These students are quick learners and many former students have gone on to pursue careers in research or academic medicine. The program pays for the scholar’s stipend, and your laboratory will receive $1,000 to help cover the cost of supplies.

I have hosted numerous Murdock scholars throughout the course of the program and can attest to the fact that these are very productive lab members and well worth your time and effort.
