About the lecture

Dr. Ponder will update us on his research to identify genes that underlie susceptibility to cancer and the practical applications of that knowledge. He will also discuss the essential role of collaboration between research and clinical entities to more rapidly translate discoveries into patient care, and realizing a future of personalized medicine. Dr. Ponder is world-renowned for his pioneering research into discovering genes that affect our risk of common cancers, particularly breast cancer. He is also investigating the genetics of lung cancer. Dr. Ponder’s team helped to identify the breast cancer susceptibility genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, and conducted the first genome wide association study in breast cancer.
