The NIH wants your input to help lower administrative burdens

The NIH is asking for your input on some proposed approaches to reducing the administrative burden in research with laboratory animals (NOT-OD-18-152 and Federal Register Notice 2018-05173).

The request for information is a coordinated effort of the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. The goal is to reduce the administrative burden on investigators while maintaining the integrity and credibility of research findings and protection of research animals.

Input will be accepted electronically until June 12, 2018.

In conducting the current review, NIH OLAW, USDA and FDA will review reports and surveys from 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.

This is an opportunity to help the NIH refine recommendations and implementation plans so that they may reduce administrative burden while maintaining the commitment to humane care and use of animals in research.
