OHSU Research Week 2019 is May 13 to 15 — it’s coming up fast! Are you presenting a poster or giving a scientific talk? The OHSU Library is hosting workshops to help OHSU community members prepare for Research Week and communicate the work they perform and lead.
The sessions are open to all OHSU community members and described in detail below.
Scientific Posters 101
Friday, April 19
2 to 3:30 p.m.
Mac Hall, room 2201
The poster is one of the most commons ways of presenting and communicating research. An effective poster summarizes your work and compels an audience to want to learn more.
In this OHSU Library workshop, instructor Robin Champieux will introduce visual and oral techniques for displaying and communicating research through hands-on activities. Attend to learn about the process of preparing and presenting a successful scientific poster.
Please register in advance.
Oral Presentations 101
Friday, April 26
2 to 3:30 p.m.
Mac Hall, room 2201
Oral presentations allow you to share your work with other researchers, but the medium can be intimidating, especially if you are new to public speaking. This OHSU Library workshop will cover the basic structure for presenting research in an oral presentation, how to use slides and figures effectively, and public speaking tips, including how to respond effectively to audiences questions. Like many research tasks, giving a good oral presentation is a skill that you can learn. Attend this workshop to get started.
Please register in advance.
