What: Supports high-risk/high-reward research from investigators pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology and related areas in chemistry, medicine and biological science
Who should apply: Independent investigators at the assistant professor level whose appointment is the investigator’s first tenure-track position at OHSU (Searle usually has a timeline for when investigators should have started their position; more info should be available when invitations to apply are sent)

Hepatology Brenden-Colson Center for Pancreatic Care Fellowship
What: Trains early-stage investigators for a career in research related to the biology, diagnosis or therapy of hereditary, inflammatory or malignant pancreatic disease; clinical, basic and population-based research will all be considered
Who should apply: Pancreatic researchers at the rank of postdoc, fellow, instructor, research assistant professor or similar entry-level positions who have limited or no previous work in the fields of pancreatic biology or pancreatic cancer

Who should apply: OHSU and PSU faculty with primary appointment in OHSU-PSU School of Public Health; special consideration given to research focused on health equity, social justice, social determinants of health and health disparities and applicants who either meet definitions of New Investigator or Early-Stage Investigator, as defined by the NIH or are mid- or later career applicants developing a new research direction

Multidisciplinary OHSU Foundation Collins Medical Trust
What: Provides seed funding for projects that advance basic or clinical medical research and will be leveraged to have a greater impact in the future through being eligible for future NIH or other substantial funding; successful proposals will highlight impact on the immediate population served, Oregon and potential national impact
Who should apply: Early career investigators, including postdoctoral fellows and assistant professors, who are clearly supported by their mentors

What: Supports early and mature cancer research with goals of improved detection, treatment and outcomes; projects should be bold, collaborative and equity-focused, and supported activities include equipment purchases, information technology, data and measurement systems, and capacity building

What: Recognizes innovative research by postdoctoral and graduate researchers in the development of therapies and medical products that save and sustain patients’ lives

Award: $3,000 for first-tier awards and $500 for second-tier

Multidisciplinary Health and Environmental Sciences Institute Innovation Prize
What: Recognizes scientists who have done exceptional research, training/education and programmatic work in one of the following areas: safe and effective medicines; food safety and security;  chemical and consumer product safety; and environmental quality and sustainability
Who should apply: Scientists submitting work they have completed within the last five years; self-nominations are permitted
Award: $80,000 in unrestricted cash

Multidisciplinary ‖ Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists
What: Honors one young scientist for outstanding life science research for which they were awarded a doctoral degree in the previous two years; your thesis research must have been in one of the following categories to qualify: Cell and Molecular Biology; Genomics, Proteomics, and Systems Biology approaches; Ecology and​ Environment; Molecular Medicine
Who should apply: Researchers whose thesis research falls into one of the above categories and who were awarded their Ph.D. between Jan. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2020; prize will also only recognize work that was performed while the entrant was a graduate student
