I grew up in Portland, splitting my time between camping, snowboarding, and bad sci-fi books.  I’ve traveled all over the world, but I always find myself back in Oregon.  I can only assume I have a good reason for this, something beyond the great beer and annual zombie walk.  OHSU especially has had a weirdly strong pull on me; I’ve been here, doing research as either an undergrad intern or research assistant, since 1999. And now I’m starting in the PMCB program.

I have entirely too many hobbies; photography, writing, drawing, cooking, music, and always adding more.  Can’t say I’m very good at any of them, but I love making things, and I think being creative is a great thing to foster, especially in research.  I like to take an artistic approach to imaging, experiments, writing, or just looking at a problem in a creative way.  I’m a firm believer that intelligence and hard work are the keys to good science, and creativity is the key to great science.  Now that I’m starting on my Ph.D. I guess I’ll find out if I’m right.
